KWA’s newest property houses & provides community services to 88 low-income seniors, supporting their ability to thrive and create spaces that are easy to navigate. Principles of universal design and visitability are incorporated throughout the building and include ADA restrooms equipped with a nurse-call pull cord, ADA elevators, and a monitor that streams activities and announcements. A community living room/open lounge area allows residents to socialize. Design focused on safety and ease of use is apparent throughout the resident units, including: (a) large roll in showers equipped with handheld shower heads & hand rails, (b) easy to open crank casement windows, (c) cabinets with adjustable shelving & task lighting, (d) stoves with automatic shut-off timers, (e) slip resistant flooring, and (f) a pull-cord nurse call emergency response system in both the bedroom & bathroom. A top-floor exercise room and outdoor deck boast sweeping views of Mount Rainier to the east and contain accessible raised garden beds.
