A New, District-Scale Skatepark for an Underserved Community

Rainier Beach Playfield Skatepark | Seattle, WA

Environmental Works was hired by the Seattle Parks Foundation to work with local communities to realize the vision for a District Skatepark in the Rainier Beach Neighborhood that was put forward by the 2007 Seattle Citywide Skatepark Plan. Led by Danielle Jackson from CHAMPS and Scott Shinn from Parents for Skateparks, the design team recently (2022) completed a three-meeting community design process. The final preferred design provides an approximately 17,000 SF skatepark that serves beginning and intermediate skaters while also providing gathering spaces for neighbors. The next phase of the project will take this community design through construction with the goal of being completed in 2024.
