Luz Clarita Arroyo

Architectural Intern

Luz Clarita Arroyo (She/Her/Ella) is pursuing a degree in Architecture at the University of Washington with a minor in Construction Management. She joins Environmental Works through the Housing Development Internship Program. Growing up in an underrepresented agricultural community and coming from an immigrant, low-income background ignited her passion for affordable housing and sustainable development. Luz is committed to creating spaces that serve those who need them most and believes in the critical role affordable and sustainable housing plays in building equitable communities.

At UW, Luz supports students from underrepresented, first-generation, and low-income backgrounds as a coordinator for the Youths in the Built Environment program, where she works to empower youth by introducing them to architecture, landscape architecture, construction, and urban development.

“I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at Environmental Works because of their welcoming and supportive environment. … they've shown me the true value of community involvement in creating better spaces. The team is incredibly knowledgeable, and I’ve gained insights not only into architecture but also from their experiences. Working on Bryant Manor has deepened my understanding of both architectural and construction aspects, while Reconnect South Park has highlighted the importance of community input and outreach leadership - values that Environmental Works holds in high regard.“
