A New Farmstand for Bellevue’s Historic Blueberry Farm

Mercer Slough Blueberry Farmstand | Bellevue, WA

The Mercer Slough Blueberry Farm Stand is a new two-story seasonal market located alongside the historic Winters House and Mercer Slough Nature Park, one of Bellevue’s largest and most significant natural areas. The project replaces an earlier farmstand affected by construction of the new East Link light rail and supports the continued agricultural use of the site, including the historic U-pick blueberry fields.

The 1,750-square-foot building provides a flexible, column-free market and gathering space for the sale of blueberries, produce, flowers, and other seasonal goods. A durable concrete floor, movable display tables and bins, and large wood doors allow the market to adapt throughout the growing season. Clerestory windows, skylights, and glazed openings bring natural light into the interior, while outdoor seating and planting areas extend the market toward the surrounding wetland landscape.

Drawing from the agricultural character of Mercer Slough, the building pairs a taller central volume with lower gabled wings and uses vertical wood siding, exposed timber framing, standing-seam metal roofing, and warm wood doors. Site improvements included parking, landscaping, utilities, and extensive stormwater infrastructure carefully coordinated within the constrained site and adjacent wetland environment.
