Hopelink Place
Project Description
Hopelink Place provides transitional housing for 20 families with very low incomes, along with a childcare facility for both resident children and those of the larger community. Hopelink, the owner and manager of the property, provides on-site support services for the families so that they can transition into more long-term living situations within the community. The housing is arranged in two buildings around a central green which serves as the primary public space. The two housing buildings are broken up in two and three story forms with porches fronting the central courtyard and apartments are arranged so that kitchen and dining areas have a view to this common outdoor area.

Sustainable Design
The project was designed for energy and resource efficiency. Buildings were oriented to maximize southern exposure and drought-tolerant landscaping minimized the need for irrigation. Long-term energy use was reduced by super insulating the envelope, utilizing gas-fired hydronic heat and installing Energy Star rated fixtures. Sustainable building materials included engineered framing lumber, prefabricated floor joists and roof trusses, and fiber cement siding. Recycling centers were designed into each of the apartments, as well as collection containers in the common dumpster area.
